Summary of 2016 Legislative Redress Activity

  • In 2016, 35 bills were introduced in 13 states in 2016 that would repeal their current statewide academic standards. Of these, none has been enacted so far this year.
  • In 2016, 26 bills were introduced in 14 states in 2016 that would repeal their current statewide assessment system. Of these, none has been enacted so far this year.
  • In 2016, 67 bills were introduced in 20 states in 2016 that would delay implementation of, or use of student achievement scores in, statewide accountability systems. Of these, six have been enacted so far this year.
  • In 2016, 62 bills were introduced in 23 states in 2016 that would modify their current statewide assessment systems. Of these, ten have been enacted so far this year.
  • In 2016, 56 bills were introduced in 22 states in 2016 that would modify their current statewide accountability systems, including decoupling student achievement from teacher evaluation or school grading systems. Of these, ten have been enacted so far this year.
